Managing Cross Border Healthcare - new era, new opportunites?

Beyond the political debates about the EU's policy on cross border healthcare lies a series of important questions on how to develop and manage the best services for patients crossing borders. The "Managing Cross Border Healthcare" Conference focused on the issues of quality and patient safety, health literacy, opportunities for health facilities and the use of ehealth innovation.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Dr. Carlo Ramponi is the Managing Director of Joint Commission International’s European Office. Prior to his position as Managing Director, Dr. Ramponi served as a JCI Consultant and as Project Director of JCI consulting projects in Italy since 2000. Dr. Ramponi served for over 15 years at the Bocconi University as a researcher and teacher on health care quality issues. Other executive positions include having served as CMO in a private clinical laboratory in Milan, and as President of the Managing Committee of a Public Healthcare Organization.

Dr. Ramponi has also held senior teaching positions at the Bocconi University School of Management, and on the Parma University Faculty of Medicine, the University of Milan Faculty of Medicine, and the Torino University Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Ramponi received his medical degree from Parma University, Italy, and an MBA from the University Luigi Bocconi, Milan, Italy.

 

Mr Panos Englezos is a Member of the Board of the European Patients Forum. In addition to his work on EPF's Board, his long running work in fighting for patients with thalassaemia has been recognized by different local and regional associations.
 
The European Patients' Forum
is the umbrella organisation of pan-European patient organisations active in the field of European public health and health advocacy. EPF was founded in 2003 to become the collective patients’ voice at EU level, manifesting the solidarity, power and unity of the EU patients’ movement. EPF’s vision is high quality, patient-centred, equitable healthcare for all patients throughout the European Union.

EPF has a particular interest in health literacy, and a member of EPF's Board will address the conference on the challenges of developing health literacy in the context of managing cross border healthcare. 

  

Jeni Bremner, BA MSc RGN, (1960) British; since March 2007 Director of the European Health Management Association. She is a qualified nurse and also holds an M.Sc in Health Education from the University of London and an M.Sc in Health Economics from the University of York. She has substantial experience in the management and design of health and social care systems both working within health and social care systems and as a consultant. She has many years political and policy experience in the fields of public health, health care and social care.

Prior to taking up post at EHMA she worked in the UK leading the national local government policy agenda across a number of areas including children services, education, health, public health social care and criminal justice.

Dr. Uwe Klein, has a medical education for internal medicine and occupational health in Germany and Canada. He implemented numerous projects in prevention and expatriate care at SIEMENS. After 1995 he became a consultant on cultural change, corporate strategy and communications, focusing on knowledge management and e-learning. Since 2005 he works in the field of medical tourism as consultant and launched the 1st and 2nd European Congress on Health Tourism 2008 and 2009, currently preparing in a new setup the EMTC 2010 in Italy (European Medical Travel Conference 2010).

His consultant firm Health Care Strategy Intl. collaborates with international health care companies, hospitals, governments and associations to network for quality solutions in international health care and medical knowledge management. He is also president of Hippokratia e.V. a non-profit organization, promoting transparent business models and quality supervision in medical tourism by non-commercial institutions.
